Professor John Zelezny joined AdultBizLaw.com Team

8:16 am

LOS ANGELES — Legal information portal AdultBizLaw.com announced today that Professor John Zelezny has joined the site’s team of legal analysts.

“We are extremely happy to have John as part of the team and as our resident expert in 1st Amendment law,” said Michael Fattorosi, AdultBizLaw.com’s lead attorney and founder. “Having someone with John’s experience is just what we needed for our video seminar series. None one is better at teaching complicated legal issues in layman’s terms.”

In addition to being a featured video seminar presenter, Zelezny will serve as a columnist and author for the site. According to Fattorosi, the site has already taped six video seminars on topics including model releases, the Miller test for obscenity, shooting video content in public places, avoiding copyright problems on websites and issues concerning trademarks and domain names. Zelezny has also authored five articles on topics ranging from nude dancing and free speech to P2P file sharing, Fattorosi said.

Fattorosi emphasized that Zelezny is not merely an academic, as his career has included serving as a newspaper reporter in the 1970s, serving as an executive in the communications industry, authoring textbooks, and the creation of a website dedicated to media and communications law at JohnZelezny.com

“Having John join our team is just the first step of many to position AdultBizLaw.com as the industry’s go-to source for legal information,” Fattorosi said.

The End of 2257?

11:55 am

WARNING: Your government has passed a law that states that “a married couple who videotape or photograph themselves in the bedroom engaging in sexually explicit conduct would be required to keep records, affix disclosure statements to the images, and hold their home open to government agents for records inspections.”

The quoted portion of the sentence above is not from one of my XBIZ or Internext conference presentations. It is nothing less than the words of Judge Cornelia G. Kennedy from the well-reasoned opinion recently handed down by the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Connection Distributing Co. et al vs. Keisler.

For those not familiar with the case and its historic ruling on Oct. 23, Judge Kennedy, writing for the majority of a three-judge federal appeals court panel, declared that 18 U.S.C. §2257 is unconstitutionally overbroad. That’s right, folks, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, one of the second highest courts in the land has struck down the law known to the industry as the 2257 regulations.

Needless to say the 6th Circuit ruling is a tremendously important event for the adult entertainment industry. One that should be noted with enormous gratitude by all in the industry to my esteemed colleague Mike Murray, one of the industry’s best attorneys, who has been quietly battling the government in the Connection Distributing case since 1995.
